Lower Court Conversion Update

Long-awaited great news. BIP has signed an agreement to award the contracts and begin the conversion of the lower courts at Battle Point Park to dedicated pickleball courts. And more good news: The converted courts will have an eight-foot wide center aisle and gates to each court. The center aisle, an option only available to us recently, will create additional community space on the lower courts.

Work on the courts will begin after the Founders Tournament as soon as Bainbridge Island Metro Parks and Recreation District staff can schedule the contractors.

A two-inch asphalt cap will be added on top of the existing courts. The courts will be resurfaced. Interior fencing with gates will be added and the new chain link will be installed on the exterior fence posts. A volunteer crew from BIP will paint the existing posts black to match the black chain link.

With the addition of the center aisle, interior fencing and the significant increase in costs since our original fundraising effort to raise more money we need to raise a bit more money to complete the project. A plan to complete the project, including fundraising is forthcoming following the tournament. Stay tuned.
